Confessions of a Struggling Actor

Odd updates from my odd life

Things get verse and verse

@ 10:43 AM (43 months, 17 days ago)

It's been a week of rhyming couplets and iambic pentameters for me.

Rehearsals have been going well.  The guys behind the production know what they're doing and they have assembld a very capable cast.  I'm well getting into it and finding it easier than I thought.  To be fair, all we've done is block it and get used to the church's acoustics.  There's going to have to be a lot of reasonance work as your voice can easily get lost if you turn away from the audience.  With my deep bass tones (as Richmond), there's no worries and when it fills the space it is quite impressive - a colleague's words, not mine.

So there's not much to report this week.  I was out on Saturday for Ruth's (girl I played opposite in the Lift in Edinburgh) 30th.  It was in Crouch End, so nice and handy for me getting home.  I saw a few friends from those days and Ruth was in the band that played.  they did solely TV theme tunes and were brilliant.  Particular highlights were a metal version of Jamie and His Magic Torch, the Australian Soaps medley, Hong Kong Fooey and the Minder theme tune.  Pity they didn't do Top Cat, which has been my particular favourite for some time.  I can still see John Hardie 'conducting' us in a 5 part harmony acappela styleee.  A badly conceived shot of sambuca gave me a mother of a headache that actually woke me up at 7am on Sunday.

That day, I met Moira and Gareth about the theatre company.  Fenella has sadly dropped out, but the meeting was incredibly constructive and some cracking ideas came out of it.  We're going to take it step by step and not put too much of a time limit on it as we decided to make sure the set-up was sorted first and as we have some pretty big plans, we've left the idea of doing something in August by the wayside.  With that, Simon's play, Rich3 and hearing about the latest plans from Jon Baird (who got me the Green St audition), it's exciting times.

Less exciting was my first game back at 5s, which we lost 3-1.  No regular keeper, with the deputy at heinous fault for all 3 goals.  I hit the post, but took too long to get started.  Time to get back into pounding the streets I think, now that the evenings are getting longer.
